Seasonal Grasses

We have planted native warm seasonal grasses in special nesting areas as buffers around our wetlands to provide crucial nesting habitat for local waterfowl, pheasants, quail, and songbirds.

Wood Duck Boxes

We also manage wood duck boxes which have been very successful due to the care and placement of each box.

Brood Ponds

Brood Ponds are kept full until August 1st or when our new ducklings are mature. Once drained, we begin to disk to control invasive plants like cattail, primrose, and spikerush that thrive in these ponds.

Natural Food Sources

Every year our disking and water management program continues to give us great results in growing watergrass and smartweed to sustain the diet of our migrating waterfowl friends during the winter months

Fall Flood Up

We begin flooding our seasonal ponds the first week in August in time for the early arrival of migrating waterfowl and local birds coming from rice fields that are being drained at that time.

Ideal Conditions

We work very hard all year round to provide ideal conditions for all of our wildlife at CZF. The enjoyment we get from our passion and hardwork comes as we watch thousands of migrating and resident waterfowl species take refuge within the home we have provided for them.
